Just in: AC Milan finally set deadline for key Stefano Pioli decision

Stefano Pioli has come under fire in recent weeks, and if he fails to turn things around, the AC Milan manager may be fired before the end of the year. However, any decision has been postponed until after the Newcastle game.

Milan was defeated again yesterday, this time by Atalanta following a poor defensive performance. Pioli didn’t help his players’ cause by making many tactical adjustments despite the injury problem.

Newcastle is up next, and the Rossoneri must win all three points while also hoping that Borussia Dortmund defeats Paris Saint-Germain. To summarize, the path to the Round of 16 is extremely difficult, and Pioli will need to save himself by at least winning.

Milan will make a decision after the Newcastle game, according to Franco Ordine in his editorial for Il Giornale this morning, as cited by Francesco Nasato. Failure to qualify for the Champions League, and possibly the Europa League as well, would cost the team a lot of money.

The January window is rapidly approaching, and putting in a new manager before then could be a wise decision. The question is whether Milan’s management will have the fortitude to make a mid-season switch.
