‘Absolute nightmare’ – Sky Sports pundit slams Newcastle player after footage emerges v Everton

Tim Sherwood blasts Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier

Tim Sherwood was left unimpressed by Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier after the Magpies lost 3-0 against Everton at Goodison Park on Thursday night (8 December).

While watching the footage of the second goal by Abdoulaye Doucoure, Sherwood says that it was the “worst” performance he has seen from Trippier who has been an “absolute nightmare”.

Dwight McNeil scored the opening goal after Trippier made a mistake in the 79th minute. A few minutes later, while attempting to nutmeg Jack Harrison, the ever-dependable defender made another error, leading to the second goal.

Trippier also made a mistake for the third goal because he was out of position, which Beto took full advantage of. Trippier was a crucial player under Eddie Howe, and this performance was much below his expectations, according to Sherwood, who also works for Sky Sports.

“He tries to nutmeg Harrison there. He dribbles brilliantly into the box, and picks out a pass. Dwight McNeill misses but Doucoure joins into the box and rolls that in. For Trippier, it was the worst 10 minutes I have ever seen he ever had,” said Sherwood on Premier League World feed (7 December).

“He is Mr. Dependable but tonight he has had an absolute nightmare.”

Ian Wright stated during the post-match discussion show that Trippier and the Newcastle defense ran out of steam, which is why Everton could crush them toward the end.

While it appears to be a slip in concentration from Trippier, it may also be interpreted as a fatigued body and tired mind from some of Newcastle’s players, and it is likely having a physical toll on them.

The Magpies are currently dealing with a slew of injuries, and Eddie Howe is struggling to shift his squad. He is missing a number of crucial players, particularly on defense, and with games coming thick and fast, he hasn’t been able to rotate the group as often as he would have liked.
