New Milan Star Set to make first Serie A start for Rossoneri when they face Genoa

AC Milan emergency signing Luka Jovic is set to make his Serie A debut for Stefano Pioli’s side when they face Genoa on Saturday. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the ‘lifelong Rossoneri fan’ is the favorite to play in the final third alongside Noah Okafor and Samuel Chuwkueze.

Jovic’s move to the San Siro on deadline day came as a surprise. Milan also had Mehdi Taremi of Porto and Jonathan David of Lille on their radar. However, after failing to persuade their clubs to authorize moves, Rossoneri turned to the Serbian striker.

While his fellow arrivals are already making advances, Jovic has been a minor player in the early goings. Okafor has scored in each of Milan’s last two Serie A games.
But he’ll likely take Rafael Leao’s place on the left wing, allowing the ex-Fiorentina man to go central.

Pioli’s choice to rearrange the deck is understandable.

In midweek Champions League action, Milan faced a physically and mentally taxing match against Borussia Dortmund. Despite being held to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday, Leao and Olivier Giroud worked tirelessly at Signal Iduna Park.

They both deserve a break, and Milan can provide it after acquiring much-needed depth during the summer transfer window. Jovic has struggled to make an impression in a few cameo outings this season. But he could go against the grain in his debut start for the club.
