Dan Burn shared the Anthony Gordon statistic, which surprised him briefly as he praised his Newcastle United teammate for the way he has stepped up this season.
Burn was on The Monday Night Club when he mentioned how the under-21 European Championships in the summer proved to be a game changer for the 22-year-old.
Anthony Gordon’s performances this season have undoubtedly proven a lot of people wrong. In the months following his big-money deal from Everton in January, Eddie Howe remained patient with the teenager.

However, in the early months of this season, he has discovered another gear. Gordon has six Premier League goals and five assists to his name. And it was his goal that handed Newcastle the victory over Manchester United at the weekend.
Gordon is gaining fans for more than just his goals and assists. Dan Burn commended the kid for his improvement this season and mentioned how hard he works for the team.
“I think the Euros did wonders for him – he’s a confident lad, don’t get us wrong – but add that to the fact that he was on fire coming back for pre-season.”
When he returned, he was in great shape. And most likely only grasping what the manager desired for him. “He has direction now in everything he does,” he told The Monday Night Club.
“I believe I read somewhere the other day that he had the most tackles for our team, which surprised me.” But, when you watch him play, it’s not really unexpected.”
Newcastle vindicated for January signing
Gordon has the highest number of tackles attempted among the Newcastle squad. According to FBRef, only Bruno Guimaraes has tried more shots this season after their win over Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Gordon has won more tackles in the middle of the park than any other Newcastle player.
When you consider what he is doing in front of goal, that is a great accomplishment. And it explains why Newcastle paid £45 million to sign him in January.
Howe definitely recognized a player who could be brutal in the last third while still fighting for the team.
Gordon, ironically, will return to Goodison Park to play Everton in Newcastle’s next game. He can definitely expect a nasty reception when he returns to Merseyside.
Given his present form, however, many will anticipate Gordon to be the difference-maker.
