Through 13 spring training games, the Boston Red Sox have evaluated their roster, with much of the focus on third base competition. However, outfield depth has become an area of concern. According to Sean McAdam of MassLive.com, the Red Sox are actively searching for additional outfield help, particularly a right-handed hitter. “It’s not a major or critical need for now, but according to an industry source, the Red Sox have let other teams know that they’re in the market for additional outfield depth,” McAdam reported.

The need arises from uncertainty surrounding their current outfield depth. The Red Sox project Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Wilyer Abreu as their starting trio, with Rob Refsnyder as the primary backup. Beyond them, options are limited. The team signed Trayce Thompson at the start of spring training, but despite a solid performance, they are still looking for reinforcements.
Masataka Yoshida is expected to serve as the full-time designated hitter, while Abreu is dealing with a gastrointestinal virus that could sideline him for Opening Day. Prospects Kristian Campbell and Roman Anthony are unlikely to break camp with the big-league club, leaving the Red Sox in need of major league-ready outfielders. As teams finalize their 26-man rosters, some outfielders may become available, and the Red Sox are expected to explore trade or waiver-wire options.
