Sheffield United are ready to split ways with Paul Heckingbottom, and Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has responded immediately.
After his side hammered the Blades at the weekend, Burnley manager Paul Cook ended Heckingbottom’s stint at the club.
Of course, United and Kompany squared off last season. The Blades defeated the Clarets 5-2 at Bramall Lane before losing later in the season at Turf Moor.
During that period, the two managers developed a mutual respect, and Kompany recently spoke to Sky Sports about Heckingbottom.

Speaking about the situation at Bramall Lane, the Burnley boss had a fair bit to say on the matter.
“I just know that three or four months ago he was one of the best managers in the league where I was and I just met him at an awards dinner where he was picking up awards for that as well, so not that much could have changed in three or four months,” Kompany said.
“I just think, if you look at the level of this league, it’s always important to keep putting into context, like I say every club will have its own way of dealing with things but like I said, last year the whole of last season all that stuck with me was the amount of praise he was getting for the work he was doing. But you know, this is how it goes, people seem to accept it in football. Personally I don’t. Not that it’s done everywhere means it should be done this way but, it is what it is.”
The Blades are expected to sign Chris Wilder to an 18-month contract when he returns to the club.
Keith Andrews is reportedly scheduled to join the club as a coach, and Alan Knill will accompany Wilder back to Shirecliffe.
