Trai Hume, the latest Sunderland player to be linked with a move away, has been linked with a Premier League move.
Sunderland have had an up-and-down start to the season, but they presently lie ninth, only three points out of the play-offs.
Under Tony Mowbray’s guidance, the Black Cats have progressed to the Championship while making astute signings.
In previous transfer windows, the signing of youthful stars on low-cost deals has been chosen and has worked well so far. Signings like Jobe Bellingham have been an undeniable success at The Stadium of Light this season.
Having said that, the success of these talents has clubs sniffing around for their signature.
Sunderland took a gamble on Jack Clarke, who turned out to be a great signing. Another name has been linked away this week…
What has been said about Trai Hume?
Trai Hume has had a fantastic season, starting every game under Mowbray so far this season. This has resulted in only two goal involvements, but it is his defensive game that sticks out the most.
TEAMtalk reports that numerous clubs in the Premier League and Championship are interested in signing him.
In regard to this, it has been reported that: “TEAMtalk sources have told us that Premier League side Burnley, along with Championship promotion contenders Leicester and Leeds, are looking closely at Hume.”
It is safe to say that if one of these clubs came in, the promise of playing in the Premier League would be a major factor. With that being said, in years gone by Sunderland have been in and amongst the playoffs so promotion isn’t so far from them either.
How good has he been?
Hume has been one of the finest fullbacks in several ways, according to his FotMob percentiles. In terms of defensive maneuvers and aerial battles. With 96% and 95%, it is easy to assume that he has been excellent defensively.
This does not detract from his attacking ability, since his goal total places him in the top 61%, which is not too shabby in reality.
His versatility makes him a valuable asset, and when combined with his age and recent achievements, Mowbray and Sunderland will be reluctant to let him go.
Although the idea of playing in the Premier League may be enticing for the Northern Irishman, Sunderland should be able to keep him until at least the summer.
