The San Diego Padres will begin the 2025 MLB season without two key bullpen depth pieces, as both are sidelined with different injuries.
Padres: Bryan Hoeing & Sean Reynolds both sidelined
According to Sammy Levitt of 97.3 The Fan (via Gabe Smallson of San Diego Padres on SI), the Padres will be without right-handers Bryan Hoeing and Sean Reynolds for Opening Day.
“Mike Shildt says he doesn’t expect either RHP Bryan Hoeing or RHP Sean Reynolds to break camp with the Padres,” Levitt reported Saturday morning. “Reynolds is still in a rest period while dealing with a stress reaction in his right foot, while Hoeing continues recovering from a sore right shoulder.”

Padres will have to battle without both talents
Hoeing delivered a strong performance out of the Padres’ bullpen in 2024. The 28-year-old appeared in 18 games, finishing one, and posted an impressive 1.52 ERA with a 0.803 WHIP.
Between his time with the Padres and the Marlins, Hoeing wrapped up the season with 43 strikeouts and a 2.18 ERA. Once healthy, he’s expected to provide San Diego with quality innings in relief.
Reynolds, meanwhile, impressed in his rookie season, recording a stellar 0.82 ERA with 21 strikeouts over just 11 innings in nine appearances. His strong command in the strike zone gives the Padres confidence that he can be a reliable and effective bullpen piece upon his return.
