The Dallas Stars have acquired forward from the Carolina Hurricanes and signing him to an eight-year, $96 million contract extension, according to TSN.
Per ESPN, Carolina will receive two first-round picks, two third-round picks, and forward Logan Stankoven as part of the trade.
His stint with the Hurricanes was brief, as he was acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in a three-team trade involving the Chicago Blackhawks on January 24. In that deal, Carolina received Mikko Rantanen and former Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall from Chicago while sending Martin Necas and Jack Drury to Colorado.
The Avalanche also acquired forward Nils Juntorp, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2026 fourth-rounder in the trade. Juntorp was later dealt to Carolina, while Chicago regained its own 2025 third-round pick, which had previously been traded to the Hurricanes.

Rantanen, 28, tallied six points (two goals, four assists) in 13 games with Carolina after recording 64 points (25 goals, 39 assists) in 49 games with Colorado before the trade. He is in the final year of a six-year, $55.5 million contract.
Selected 10th overall by the Avalanche in the 2015 NHL Draft, Rantanen surpassed 100 points in each of the last two seasons and was a key contributor to Colorado’s 2022 Stanley Cup victory. Over his career, he has registered 687 points (289 goals, 398 assists) in 632 games.
Stankoven, 22, has posted 29 points (nine goals, 20 assists) in 59 games for Dallas this season.
