‘He is that big of a talisman’: Celtic tipped to sign 28-yr-old Scotland star after Motherwell draw

Michael Stewart has endorsed the idea of Celtic signing Lawrence Shankland from Hearts following their dropped points against Motherwell. Questions about Celtic’s attacking quality arise when Kyogo Furuhashi isn’t performing. The departure of Giorgos Giakoumakis has been criticized, leading to suggestions of an error in selling the now-MLS player.

During the Motherwell game, Brendan Rodgers introduced Hyeongyu Oh at half-time, but he failed to make the desired impact. Stewart proposed that Lawrence Shankland, who has scored six goals in 13 games for Hearts, is a superior player, as he mentioned in The Scottish Football Podcast.

Shankland’s success isn’t limited to Hearts; he recently scored for Scotland in their draw against Georgia, showcasing top-notch form. This led Stewart to suggest the 28-year-old as a potential transfer target for Celtic, particularly due to his impressive performances.

Lawrence Shankland to Celtic

Lawrence Shankland hits a Hearts record not seen for 35 years and answers the question on changing-room issues

“My personal view on Lawrence Shankland and Jacob Brown is that I would be going for Lawrence Shankland every day of the week,” said Stewart about who should play for Scotland.

“If you took Lawrence Shankland out of the Hearts side. I would be concerned for Hearts. He is that big of a talisman. He is starting to hit some real form. His all round game has improved dramatically over the last couple of years.

“I think we have a real snobbery in this country of looking down on domestic players and thinking ‘they are playing here and they are playing there’.

“Michael Beale didn’t fancy him for Rangers. Someone was saying big Chris Sutton was talking about, in terms of connection with (Celtic), and someone said he had come out and spoken about going to Celtic.

“For me, you look at big Oh at Celtic (compared to) Lawrence Shankland. Personally, (I would go for) Lawrence Shankland. He scores goals.”

A difficult role for Oh

It’s difficult to play infrequently, especially as a striker who is assessed solely on goals.

It may be claimed that if Oh was beginning and playing regularly for Hearts, he would outperform Shankland.

Some may urge the powers that be to bolster Celtic’s forward line since it may be an option in January.

The recruitment over the years has been really clever, from Kyogo to Matt O’Riley, but fans would like the boat to be pushed out a little more.
