Newcastle United face PSG in the Champions League this week and will be hoping for a handful of players to recover from injury for this key match.
Eddie Howe’s options for Newcastle’s lineup on Tuesday night are obviously restricted, but there may be some good news on the injury front.
After being ineligible to play against Chelsea, Newcastle may see the ‘excellent’ Lewis Hall start again, while Sean Longstaff hopes to return from injury.
Newcastle will be buoyed by their 4-1 thrashing of the French giants in the rematch, but this is a much stiffer test, and their away form has been far from faultless this season.
Despite the injuries there is still a strong team that can be picked and this is the Newcastle starting XI we predict will face PSG.
Sean Longstaff to return to the starting XI
Longstaff has been very vital at the core of Newcastle’s victories, even if much of his work goes unrecognized.
Longstaff, who was injured against Chelsea, will be anxious to return from his injury against PSG and help Newcastle recover from two straight Champions League defeats.
The 26-year-old was instrumental in the 4-1 triumph at St James’ Park, scoring a magnificent second-half goal, and will be hoping for a similar result on Tuesday.
The Magpies don’t necessarily have to win in the French capital to qualify for the knockout rounds, but it will make it pretty challenging without three points and puts a lot of pressure on that final home game vs AC Milan.
Lewis Hall starts at left-back
It may not be the most popular option given how effective Tino Livramento has been down both flanks, but Howe may feel more at ease with a more natural left-back playing in this position.
Hall was unfortunate to receive an early yellow card against Borussia Dortmund, forcing him to be replaced at halftime, so the ‘talented’ teenager will be hoping to make amends against PSG.
Everyone else to keep their place
As previously said, Newcastle does not have many options due to the extensive injury list, and Howe will not have many options to choose from on his bench against PSG.
Lewis Miley may be frustrated that he did not receive a start following his good performance against Chelsea, but the 17-year-old is already earning more first-team minutes than Howe would have expected at this point.
Livramento is another player who has a strong case for inclusion, but he is a viable possibility to come on and make an impact in the second half.
