Nathan Broadhead of Ipswich Town has been cleared to play in tomorrow’s Championship home match against Preston North End.
The Welsh international, who has four goals and one assist this season, missed last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Huddersfield due to a thigh injury and was an unused sub in Tuesday night’s 3-0 home win over Hull.
In his absence, Omari Hutchinson and Marcus Harness have both performed admirably on the Town attack’s inner left.
“Tuesday came around a little bit too quickly for him,” Blues manager Kieran McKenna remarked of Broadhead during today’s pre-match press conference.
“He was medically clear but hadn’t done much training.” He was available for the bench, but we’d only utilize him if we believed it was necessary.
“He trained yesterday and today, so he’s a little bit further down the line than he was before Tuesday.”
When asked if anyone else had been injured in midweek, McKenna answered, “No, we’re in good shape.” Apart from Lee (Evans), we’ve got full group training today, so we’re in great shape.”
On Wednesday, Evans underwent knee surgery.
“It’s not a two-to-three-month injury and it’s not a year – could be anything in between,” McKenna added.
“Let’s see, I think what’s most important is that he takes whatever time he needs to get it right now.”
“He’s got some good years ahead of him as a player, we think, and he’s had a lot of experience up to this point in his career and hopefully this is a pause point to get it really right and then push on for the next few seasons.”
