Dennis Cirkin is a’major doubt’ for Sunderland’s Saturday match against Plymouth Argyle.
According to the Sunderland Echo, the defender may be forced to miss a number of games owing to injury.
Dennis Cirkin had firmly established himself as a fixture for the Black Cats in recent seasons, and Niall Huggins had rarely challenged him at the start of the current season.
However, the left-back sustained a hamstring injury in September and has since been replaced by the Wales international. Huggins has been in excellent form for Sunderland in recent months, while Cirkin was only anticipated to return to the club owing to the suspensions of Dan Ballard and Luke O’Nien against Birmingham City.
After a pair of cameo appearances, the 21-year-old was named to the starting lineup against the Blues to play a more central role. Cirkin, on the other hand, was withdrawn from the squad during the warm-up after sustaining another hamstring injury.
Tony Mowbray commented after the game, “Ultimately, it’s his hamstring.” He trained yesterday and stated he felt it afterward. When he awoke this morning, he felt fine, excellent, so we decided to continue.
“He then did the warm-up and said he could feel it again, so we didn’t want to risk it.” He’ll undergo a scan tomorrow and we’ll see what the results are. It’s clearly frustrating for us, but it’s fantastic for Nectar [Triantis].”
