Jacob Murphy has provided an update on his injury progress following shoulder surgery.
The Newcastle United winger sustained a dislocated shoulder against Arsenal after leaving the field with the same injury 10 days earlier against Borussia Dortmund at home.
The 28-year-old is anticipated to be out until early 2024, but he appears to be back in the gym working towards full fitness.
Murphy used social media to share two videos of himself working up a sweat. In the first, he’s doing weighted lunges with the caption’stepping it up,’ which includes a bionic arm emoji.
The emoji is one he’s used before. After the Arsenal match the footballer posted to Instagram with the caption: “Tonight was a risk but a risk I felt was worth taking to be out there and fight with my team! 3 big points 🦾 @nufc 🖤🤍”
Murphy, without a doubt, intends to return stronger and better than before.
He also shared a video of himself riding his bike, which he dubbed ‘juicy work.’
Eddie Howe confirmed the pair’s danger in putting Murphy back out there after he exited the pitch with the same injury for the second time in two weeks.
“Jacob came to see me and we had various discussions with the medical team,” Howe added. “We felt putting him back on the field was a risk, but it was a risk he and the medical team were willing to take.”
“We knew he had the potential to do it again, so he will now undoubtedly require surgery.”

As seen by the little plaster on his left shoulder, the surgery was non-invasive.
Murphy is one of several Newcastle United players who will miss Saturday’s (November 25) game against Chelsea.
Dan Burn, Callum Wilson, Elliot Anderson, Matt Targett, Sven Botman, and Harvey Barnes are all injured and will be absent for extended periods of time.
