Newcastle must do business in the January transfer window.
Sandro Tonali’s suspension has left the Magpies looking for a new midfielder, while Sven Botman’s recent injury has highlighted the club’s need for extra depth at the defense.
While the defense and midfield are now in need of attention, Dean Jones believes that St James’ Park also requires a new striker.
Indeed, Jones stated on the Chasing Green Arrows Podcast that Newcastle are now considering signing a new forward in January because they do not trust Alexander Isak’s ability to stay fit throughout the season.
Newcastle don’t trust Isak, could make new signing
Jones shared what he knows about the £60m man and Newcastle’s transfer plans.
“I know there are concerns at Newcastle at the moment about whether they need to sign a new forward in January because of Isak and Wilson. They can’t be undone by this, it would be gutting for them if they didn’t have another option,” Jones said.
“They really will contemplate going after another attacking option, it will probably be a versatile one that can play wide as well, Isak is a great option to go wide as well, but I don’t think they trust Isak to stay fit between now and the end of the season which is probably wise.”
Need a plan B
As good as Isak is, the best ability in football is availability, and if Isak is unable to stay fit, they must have a backup plan.
Of course, Callum Wilson is present, but the former Bournemouth striker isn’t exactly the most dependable in terms of fitness.
It will be intriguing to see what Newcastle do in the January transfer window, as there are a few issues that need to be addressed.
