Khuliso Mudau, a defender for Mamelodi Sundowns, has declared his desire to play in the Premier League, amid reports of interest from Premier League newcomers Burnley.
The 28-year-old has been a crucial player for his team this season, helping Sundowns defeat Moroccan heavyweights Wydad AC in the African Football League final.
Mudau has appeared in four South African Premier Soccer League matches this season, with Mamelodi currently leading the division with a perfect record of 24 points from their first eight games.
The right-back has also played six times for South Africa, scoring his first international goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Benin in a CAF World Cup qualifier.
According to South African news outlet SNL 24, Mudau will leave his native country for the first time in his football career in the near future.
According to the source, Burnley are interested in signing the right-back, who has made 101 appearances for the Sundowns since joining in September 2020.
Although the Clarets are yet to make a formal bid for the six-time international, his form for club and country has piqued the interest of several potential European suitors.
Mudau told the South African Football Association earlier in the international break that he was open to moving to the Premier League and Turf Moor.
“Of course, there are rumors here and there, but I’m focused on my team, Mamelodi Sundowns.” But if a possibility like that [playing for Burnley] presents itself, I’ll surely accept it,” Mudau told the media of his national team.
A move to Burnley would bring the right-back together with fellow countryman Lyle Foster, who joined Kompany’s squad in January from Belgian Pro League club Westerlo.
The Clarets’ leading scorer in the first seven games of the Premier League season, the 23-year-old has scored three goals in seven games, but the striker is presently on leave to obtain mental health therapy.
Due to the absence of the former Orlando Pirates attacker, Premier League veteran Jay Rodriguez has been given greater game time in recent weeks, starting up front with Zeki Amdouni in the defeat against Arsenal last time out.
Unlike at left-back, where the failure to buy Ian Maatsen in the final weeks of the summer window has left Burnley short of choices, the Clarets have plenty of options at right-back, with Connor Roberts and Vitinho both capable of playing the position.
