According to Paul Brown, Leeds United, Leicester City, and Burnley have decided to sue Everton for gaining an unfair sporting edge.
On November 20, a Josimar journalist told Give Me Sport that the clubs had prepared the media and were now ready to act.
The Toffees have been issued a 10-point punishment, which they will appeal.
Brown said, “I think Everton would be foolish not to be worried about potential claims by Leicester, Leeds and Burnley. This has been something that’s been rumbling in the background for a long time now. Those three clubs have been briefing the media about their intention to do this and I’m told they will go through with the threat.
“There was a verdict in a separate hearing, confirming they do have a potential claim. That claim will now be heard as part of this process and while it’s going to be incredibly difficult to quantify the losses that those clubs incurred, the Independent Commission did find that Everton gained a sporting advantage from their overspending.”
Crazy
Throughout this ongoing process, Leeds, Leicester, and Burnley have expressed their dissatisfaction with Everton’s financial violations.
Interestingly, David Phillips KC has indicated that Southampton and Nottingham Forest may be entitled to compensation as well.
This is crazy because every club is now looking to make a cash, and it’s difficult to argue that the Toffees got any sporting edge.
The current announcement, while not entirely unexpected considering the talk of a possible transfer ban, indicates that this matter is far from over.
Off-the-field drama seems unavoidable, whether Everton appeals the judgment or faces legal action from rival teams.
The question of whether Leeds and Leicester have a realistic chance of recovering big sums from Everton will most likely be resolved in the near future.
Hopefully, common reason wins and this problem is put to rest with a less severe fine, as Manchester City is already facing 115 counts of FFP violation.
