Martin Kelly, a senior West Brom player, appears to be on the verge of a comeback to action after video emerged of him back practicing with the first squad.
The 33-year-old defender suffered a catastrophic knee injury while on loan at Wigan Athletic in February and hasn’t played since.
Kelly is expected to return in the new year, according to reports, however the club shared a video on their official Twitter account (20 November) showing the former Liverpool defender receiving jubilant slaps from his teammates in training after his return.

Future uncertain
Kelly was injured in his first game for Wigan after signing on loan in January.
The experienced defender’s brief departure from The Hawthorns was expected to give him a chance to restart his career, but the reverse was true.
It’s undoubtedly another positive for the team, with the senior defender expected to return to play soon after being on the sidelines for eight months, although his future remains unknown.
Corberan intimated [Express & Star, 29 September] that the defensive veteran could be loaned out in January, and with his contract expiring in June 2024, it wouldn’t be surprising to see West Brom cut their losses then.
The Spaniard is currently well-stocked in defense, which means Kelly will be out of the West Brom squad in the near future.
But, given that he’s only recently returned from injury, it’s unclear whether the Baggies will have any takers in the new year, and he might end up on the sidelines until next summer.
