Jobe Bellingham joined Sunderland in the summer, and the youngster has impressed at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland have given 18-year-old Bellingham a regular starting spot. He saw plenty of action at Birmingham City, but he’s really caught the attention with the Black Cats, starting all 16 of their Championship games so far.
Unsurprisingly, Bellingham’s debut at the Stadium of Light is attracting attention from abroad. Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be monitoring his progress, and a winter move would deprive Tony Mowbray of his go-to attacking midfielder.
Sunderland have potential prospects who could fill that role, but they could be wise to return to Birmingham City and try to sign another of their finest players, George Hall.
Another top prospect
Hall is one of Birmingham City’s most promising players. He’s played 34 times for the first squad at the age of 19, contributing two goals and an assist. You’d have expected him to add to that amount if he hadn’t been sidelined for much of the season due to injuries.
The midfielder has previously attracted interest from major teams, which may make a deal with Sunderland more difficult. Bellingham, on the other hand, was rated equally as highly as his old Blues partner and was enticed to the North East by their offer of consistent minutes and excellent player development.
That could also entice Hall to come up to Wearside. He’d be a great addition if Bellingham left for a bigger club, and he’d be another player with potentially significant resale value for the Black Cats in the future.
Time will tell how Bellingham’s situation plays out, but if he does go, Hall would be an excellent replacement.
