A recent mock trade proposes a bold move between the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox, featuring an All-Star swap between the two teams.
Phillies could capitalize on Red Sox’s 3B controversy
Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer proposed a blockbuster trade that would send Boston Red Sox All-Star to the Philadelphia Phillies (h/t Philadelphia Phillies on SI’s Michael Brauner).
In this hypothetical deal, the Phillies would trade Alec Bohm, Nick Castellanos, and infield prospect Aidan Miller to Boston in exchange for Devers.
Phillies would be giving up haul for Devers
Rafael Devers is one of MLB’s premier sluggers, posting a .272 batting average with 87 runs, 28 home runs, and 83 RBIs in 2024. The 28-year-old also holds a career .856 OPS, highlighting his consistent offensive production.
However, defensive concerns have played a role in Boston’s roster decisions. The Red Sox were inclined to have Devers transition to designated hitter in favor of Alex Bregman at third base, as Bregman is the reigning Gold Glove Award winner at the position.
