Latest: Star forward hints at potential return to Sixers

Following his release from the Sixers, Danny Green teases a possible reunion with the franchise.

The Philadelphia 76ers just parted ways with veteran guard Danny Green, but there appears to be a possibility of a reunion.

“I root for my friends on the team that I left, and I still want to see them do well,” Green said of the Sixers during a recent interview on Run It Back.

“With Philly, I’m still rooting for them because I think there’s an opportunity for me to end up back there, hopefully in the near future.”

Green was released by the Sixers on Tuesday, following the team’s blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, which saw Philadelphia send James Harden to the Pacific division club in exchange for Robert Covington, Marcus Morris, KJ Martin, and Nicolas Batum. In the same deal, the Sixers shipped PJ Tucker and former Gonzaga Bulldogs player Filip Petrusev to Los Angeles.

Green signed a one-year, $3.2 million contract with the Sixers last September, but he only participated in two games for the team, averaging zero points, two rebounds, an assist, and a steal in 18 minutes of action.

 

 

Green’s best days are behind him at 36 years old, but he can still be a crucial locker room influence for a club like the Sixers, who are considered one of the top contenders for the NBA title this season despite losing Harden.

Philadelphia has won eight of its first ten games in the 2023-24 NBA season, with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey leading the way.
