Done Deal: Red Soxs Lands Another Top Experienced Star in Blockbuster

If the Boston Red Sox are looking to make a blockbuster move in the coming months, Toronto Blue Jays star could be a prime target. One of baseball’s premier hitters, his contract situation has been uncertain for years, and with free agency looming in 2026, his future in Toronto is far from guaranteed.

The Blue Jays opted not to extend him this offseason, and his recent comments suggest he’s open to exploring all options. “If I go to free agency, every team—all 30 teams—are going to have the opportunity to sit down with (me), to talk to me,” he told Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Although he has previously expressed interest in staying with the Blue Jays, contract disputes and organizational decisions often push players toward new opportunities. If Guerrero grows dissatisfied in Toronto, he could be tempted to join a rival American League East team—such as the Red Sox—to make a statement.

For Boston, landing Guerrero would mean acquiring a generational talent in his prime, potentially one of the top five hitters in the game. If the Blue Jays come to terms with the fact that he won’t re-sign, trading him could be their best move. Fortunately, the Red Sox have the prospect depth to make a deal happen.
