Burnley set to activate contract clause for 27-year-old star

Crystal Palace are interested in signing Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill, but their pursuit has been thwarted.

The 27-year-old has previously played for Burnley and Bristol City, and has scored twice in 11 games this season as his team struggles at the foot of the table.

With Burnley on the verge of relegation, and Brownhill’s contract scheduled to expire at the end of the season, he has received interest from a number of Premier League clubs. Signing him, however, may suddenly be more difficult.

Crystal Palace are among the clubs keeping an eye on Brownhill, according to TEAMtalk, but Burnley are set to exercise a one-year extension in his contract with the intention of offering him a new contract.

While this implies that interested teams will not be able to sign him for free this summer, he may still be available if he refuses to extend his contract, however it is unknown what kind of money would be required.

Burnley have already chosen to activate his contract extension, with West Ham and Wolves among the clubs fighting for his signature.
