George Caulkin reported in his current column for The Athletic that Amanda Staveley walked into the Bournemouth away dressing room after the 2-0 defeat to embrace Eddie Howe and the players.
Caulkin explains the manager’s wonderful letter back to our co-owner after she “expressed her pride in the team, apologized for not being able to help them more, and embraced Howe.”
Saturday night was a difficult watch. Our second defeat of the week, a truly dismal performance that added another member to the injury list in Miguel Almiron, but it’s nice to see such solidarity among the owners, manager, and players.
Staveley genuinely cares about the players and was correct to applaud them for their efforts, as we’ve done incredibly well up to this point to cope with Premier League, Champions League, and Carabao Cup games given the number of injuries, suspensions, and setbacks.
It’s easy to forget, but that was our first league defeat since September, and we’re still in with a chance in Europe, with a cup quarter-final next month. We’ve done well considering the obstacles we’ve had to overcome, as well as the demanding schedule and Tonali saga.
In terms of Howe’s message to Staveley, I believe him. We have a tendency to bounce back stronger. Following last season’s cup final setback, we went on an incredible run that saw us finish in the top four. Our three-game losing streak was broken by five wins, five clean sheets, and two draws in the seven league games that followed.
We may be exhausted, short on numbers, and limping into the international break, but I have faith in these guys. They almost always do.
