Sven Botman, defender for Newcastle United, has missed the team’s last 11 games due to injuries, but there may finally be hope.
The 8-0 thumping of Sheffield United was the last time we saw Sven Botman in action. In addition to scoring his first goal for Newcastle, it was arguably one of Botman’s easiest games as a player.
He has struggled with a difficult-to-diagnose knee problem ever since. Eddie Howe has not provided a clear indication as to when he will return to playing in a black and white shirt, which has led to some concerning updates.
Even though Howe is usually vague about injuries, there was a negative vibe about Botman. The ambiguity was alarming since it suggested a protracted layoff.
But according to a recent report from the Athletic, the 23-year-old might be back in action shortly.
Sven Botman due to return to Newcastle training after injury
The Athletic reports that Botman will resume training. The team has advised him to take it easy in an effort to postpone surgery. Hopefully, he’s gotten enough sleep now and won’t experience another setback like he did before.
The Athletic also report that they have spoken with the Dutchman’s close associates and anticipate his return soon after the international break.
At a time when injuries have ravaged Newcastle’s squad, that is undoubtedly an encouraging update. Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron are the most recent to go down, and Eddie Howe seemed upset about how many injuries he has.
However, some of Howe’s concerns will be allayed by the rumors that Botman’s comeback may not be far off.
Arguably the best center-back in the team, Botman is of the highest caliber. Newcastle hasn’t suffered greatly without him, though.
Jamaal Lascelles reminded everyone of his abilities when he entered the team and performed excellently. He has performed at a caliber of play that few people believed he was capable of.
To be honest, it would be cruel to bench Lascelles in favor of a comebacking Botman, and Howe may need to make that decision soon. That choice will please him because it indicates that his team is getting better.
