Milan have decided that 21-year-old loaned striker will return and stay at San Siro

Lorenzo Colombo is only a third of the way through his loan spell with Monza, but AC Milan have already made plans for his future after the season ends.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (see below), Milan intend to extend Olivier Giroud’s contract by one season and sign a striker to pass the baton to, such as Jonathan David, but given that the Frenchman will turn 38 next season, they also require a third reliable option.

Colombo appears to be the right man for the job. Milan will bring him back at the end of his loan at Monza next summer, and he will most likely stay this time after stints in Serie B and Serie A.

Sky journalist reveals how Colombo was inspired by PSG star to take the No.29 at Milan

The idea is that he would be an upgrade over Luka Jovic, who has yet to make an impact, while Colombo, at 21 years old, now appears mature.

His development is reflected in his statistics: one goal in 13 appearances in his first year in Cremona. Six in 34 games the following season at SPAL.

Then it was on to Serie A, where he scored five goals in 33 games with Lecce (including the game-winning penalty to ensure survival), and now three in his first nine appearances with Monza.

Colombo’s record is improving, but it is his characteristics that make him stand out: he is physical due to his size, but he is also quick and has a very powerful shot.
