Lloyd Kelly has been linked with moves to Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan, and Liverpool recently. He has certainly come a long way since leaving Bristol City in 2019.
However, according to TeamTalk (via Liverpool.com), Bournemouth will reportedly reject any offer for Kelly. The 25-year-old is unquestionably one of their best players.
The ball-playing defender can play both left-back and center-back and is clearly entering his prime years.
Spurs, Milan, and Liverpool’s interest shows that his stocks are higher than they’ve ever been.
Spurs, Milan, and Liverpool’s interest shows that his stocks are higher than they’ve ever been.
So, let’s see if such a deal is feasible. Kelly’s current contract with the Cherries expires at the end of the season (Transfermarkt), giving the club little say over his long-term future.
What comes next for Kelly and the Spurs?
This is an intriguing situation. Kelly’s position in Bournemouth’s squad is undeniably secure. He has already appeared eight times this season and has captained them in their last two league games.
If he has bigger goals, clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and AC Milan can certainly help him achieve them. With all due respect, Bournemouth are not on the same level as these three clubs.
So, if Kelly does not sign a new contract and wishes to switch clubs, it can be extremely beneficial for their suitors. It will also put the Cherries in a perilous position, as one of their prized assets could be lost for nothing next year.
Kelly is also a homegrown player, which benefits both Spurs and Liverpool. We desperately need a new center-back after losing Davinson Sanchez this summer, and Eric Dier is expected to leave on a free transfer next year.
