Southampton now interested in signing 36-goals former Championship star in January

SAINTS are reportedly showing interest in Ben Brereton Diaz, the former Championship star now with Villarreal. The Chilean international, who joined the Spanish club in the summer, has had limited playing time with only two La Liga starts. Brereton Diaz, born in Stoke-on-Trent and 24 years old, might be available for loan in January, following two successful seasons in the Championship.

Having scored 36 goals in his last 80 league appearances for Blackburn Rovers, Brereton Diaz caught the attention of several English clubs.

Crystal Palace and Burnley from the Premier League are said to be among the potential competitors, as Villarreal considers a loan exit. Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion are also reportedly in the running, posing as contenders for his signature against the Saints.

One reported challenge for Brereton Diaz in Spain is adjusting to Villarreal’s possession-based playing style. Despite previous links to Everton, the forward’s limited playing time and potential loan availability have reignited interest from English clubs in the upcoming transfer window.
