Newcastle United star posts photo from hospital bed after surgery

The star of Newcastle United, Matt Targett, says he’s still having trouble understanding what happened.

Seven days ago, the defender showed up just a few minutes into the match at Old Trafford.

Matt Targett described his injury as “completely bizarre,” and no one challenged him when he found he was unable to continue against Man U in the NUFC’s eventual three-goal victory.

However, the Newcastle defender posted a picture and a message on Wednesday morning from his hospital bed, promising to return “better than ever.”

Matt Targett says that surgery happened on Tuesday and all went well.

Matt Targett via his personal Twitter account – 8 November 2023:

“Still finding it hard to get my head around the injury…

“Felt so good going into the [Man] United game!!

“Completely bizarre injury to happen in a couple minutes of the game!

“Surgery went well yesterday [Tuesday] so I’m on the mend.

“Determined to come back better then ever.”

Matt Targett is expected to be out for at least three months, according to Eddie Howe.

The fact that Dan Burn also suffered a back injury in the Arsenal game three days later, which is expected to keep him out for months, added to the cruel nature of the injury.

A nightmare (along with so many others!) for Eddie Howe and Matt Targett, who would have undoubtedly had a fantastic opportunity to establish himself as a regular starter again in Burn’s absence.
