BREAKING: Commitment! Virginia Tech football adds top talented player to program

What a week for the Virginia Tech Hokies. It began Monday with three players announcing their decisions to transfer to Virginia Tech. Two more commitments followed, and now the Hokies secured a skilled and seasoned wide receiver. A Wake Forest wideout has revealed on Instagram that he’s heading to Blacksburg.

Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 210 pounds, Greene was a four-star recruit out of Mount Airy High School in Mount Airy, North Carolina, in 2019. At the time, he was one of the highest-rated players to sign with Wake Forest. After redshirting his first year, Greene started all eight games in 2020, recording 29 receptions for 582 yards (20.1 YPR) and two touchdowns.

Injuries sidelined Greene for the 2021 and 2023 seasons. However, in 2022, he tallied 37 catches for 642 yards (17.4 YPR) and six touchdowns. In 2024, he added 23 receptions for 380 yards (16.5 YPR) and three touchdowns.

Despite injury setbacks, Greene has been outstanding when healthy. His combination of size and speed makes him a strong candidate for Virginia Tech’s starting lineup in 2025. The Hokies are set to lose significant production with Jaylin Lane, Da’Quan Felton, Ali Jennings, and Stephen Gosnell all heading to the NFL draft, while receivers Xayvion Turner-Bradshaw and Chance Fitzgerald have transferred. Fortunately, a group of younger players, including rising junior Ayden Green and freshmen Brodie Adams and Chanz Wiggins, is poised to step up. Additionally, prized recruit Snook Peterkin is expected to play a key role in 2025.

The Hokies also added Virginia’s top transfer prospect, Cameron Seldon, who will primarily play wide receiver but can also contribute from the backfield. Greene’s experience brings a valuable edge to the team and, if he stays healthy, he could have a standout season.

Notably, Greene hails from Mount Airy High School, the alma mater of current Hokies RB Tyler Mason and DE Deric Dandy. Mount Airy is just an hour and a half from Blacksburg. Greene becomes the Hokies’ 17th transfer addition and the sixth this week.

Welcome to Blacksburg, Donavon!
