Southampton star now suspended and will miss West Brom match

SAINTS defender Jan Bednarek is suspended and will miss the upcoming visit of West Bromwich Albion.

Referee James Linington issued a yellow card to the Polish international for an added-time foul on Zian Flemming during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Millwall.

Bednarek, 27, had already received five bookings in the Championship this season, resulting in an automatic one-match ban.

Bednarek was also booked in games against Norwich City, Leeds United, Rotherham, and at full-time of Preston North End’s 2-2 draw.

After facing West Brom on Saturday, November 11, Saints will go on international break before facing Huddersfield on Saturday, November 25.

Shea Charles, 20, and Mason Holgate, 27, are the next in line to replace Bednarek.

Both summer acquisitions have played center-back as well as other positions.
Holgate has made three starts this season, allowing nine goals, five of which came on his debut in a 5-0 loss to Sunderland.

Meanwhile, Charles, who celebrated his birthday this weekend, has appeared in 13 games this season, including six starts.

Captain Jack Stephens is also on his way back from injury and may be available to play, but he hasn’t played since August.

Manager Russell Martin is expected to provide an update on the captain ahead of the game, and striker Ross Stewart is also expected to return from injury.
