‘First choice’: Pundit says £32m Newcastle player walks straight into Man United’s starting team

Newcastle thrashed Manchester United in the Carabao Cup earlier this week, and there’s been a lot of talk about both teams since then.

The Magpies have been lavished with praise following their thrashing of the Red Devils, whereas Erik Ten Hag’s side has been pilloried on a daily basis following their humiliating defeat at Old Trafford.

Scott Minto has been picking the bones out of this game on the TalkSPORT Premier League All Access Podcast, and he’s reserved some special praise for Tino Livramento, claiming that he would walk into this Manchester United team right now, despite not being Newcastle’s first-choice.

Livramento would walk into the United team

Minto shared his thoughts on the £32 million defender.

“I agree with Crooky on Livramento; he’d be first-choice at Man United right now; he’s pacey, strong, a decent defender, and he loves to get forward.” That was the perfect result and performance, and now he’s in a pickle. “Obviously, Trippier will play, he’s the first name on the teamsheet,” Minto said.

Easily

The frightening thing is that Minto is correct: Livramento would walk into this Manchester United team and be arguably their best defender right now.

Manchester United’s right-backs have been shocking for quite some time, and Livramento demonstrated this week that he’s a class above anything the Red Devils have at the moment.

The fact that Newcastle have a player of this caliber who isn’t even in their starting lineup demonstrates how good Eddie Howe’s team is right now, and there does appear to be a power shift taking place.

Newcastle appears to have surpassed Manchester United as the best United team in the Premier League.
