Newcastle ‘do not expect’ Lewis Hall to play in the Carabao Cup against Chelsea.
Newcastle United will face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, with Eddie Howe hoping to go one better than last season.
So far, Manchester City and Manchester United have been eliminated from the Carabao Cup. The win over Manchester United on Wednesday night was incredible, with the Magpies crushing them 3-0 in their own backyard.
And they did it with a group of fringe players and youngsters, one of whom appears to be out of the quarter-finals.
Lewis Hall has impressed in the Carabao Cup
Newcastle’s second goal came from Lewis Hall at Old Trafford. The 19-year-old’s volley was superbly controlled, and it was a spectacular way for him to score his first professional goal.
The teenager performed admirably in only his second start for the Magpies, the other coming in the Carabao Cup.
However, due to Newcastle’s next opponents in the competition, Hall will not be able to complete a hat-trick of League Cup starts in black and white.
This is due to the fact that we are playing Chelsea, from whom Hall is currently on loan. While he will join Newcastle on a permanent basis in the summer, he is only on a loan at the moment, so he is ineligible to play against his parent club.
The only way he could play is if Chelsea give Newcastle permission, and the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope has provided an update on the situation.
Hall not expected to play for Newcastle against Chelsea
Craig Hope has taken to X (previously known as Twitter) to express Newcastle’s position on the Hall/Carabao Cup situation.
He went on to say: “Further to this, I’m told Newcastle don’t expect Lewis Hall to be able to play at Chelsea in the quarter-final.”

As a result, Newcastle do not expect Hall to play at Stamford Bridge, which is a pity. It is, however, not surprising.
While he will be a permanent Newcastle player next year, he technically still belongs to Chelsea, and it would be insane for the Blues to lend a hand to the Magpies in such a high-stakes game.
It means that someone else will have to play left-back for Chelsea next month. That honor will go to either Dan Burn or Matt Targett, assuming the 28-year-old returns from injury.
Hall will be hoping for a chance to start for Newcastle in the Premier League soon, as his Carabao Cup exploits are set to be put on hold.
