Conor Coady gives ‘surprise’ reason for Wolves exit after Leicester City transfer

Conor Coady discusses his decision to leave Wolves after eight years and join Leicester City in the latest Wolves news.
This summer, Conor Coady “did not feel it was right” to return to Wolves.

The defender, who spent last season on loan at Premier League rivals Everton, joined Leicester City in July for a fee of £7.5 million. After a “big think” over the summer, Coady knew it was the right decision to make.

Coady played 317 times for Wolves in eight years and still “loves the place to bits.” But when Leicester approached him, he knew it was time for both himself and Wolves to move on.

He suffered an injury in pre-season while playing for Leicester and missed the start of the Championship season.

Despite only appearing on a couple of occasions for his new club, he has established himself as an important member of their squad. Wolves will miss those qualities, but the decision to leave the club was the right one.

“I had a big think over the summer and didn’t feel it was right to go back there,” Coady explained to The Telegraph. “Not just for myself, but also for the club.” “I just had the impression they were on a new path,” he says.

“I told them they were onto a new way of doing things. They got it just as much as I did, and I’ll always have that connection because I adore the place. In football, eight years is a long time, and not many players do it.

“To have this opportunity to come to Leicester, with the players they’ve got, I didn’t want to turn that down.”
