The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions, defeating Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to prevent them from becoming the first team in NFL history to win three straight titles.
Philadelphia is one of the most passionate sports cities in America. While outsiders may have opinions about its fanbase, there’s no denying the city’s deep love for its teams.
As the Eagles celebrate their championship, attention now turns to the Phillies and the upcoming 2025 Major League Baseball season.
Phillies have a tough act to follow after Eagles’ Super Bowl win
Like the Eagles, the Philadelphia Phillies have a roster built to contend for a championship. Philly sports fans are fortunate to have multiple competitive teams, something that hasn’t always been the case in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Phillies had an up-and-down 2024 season. They started strong, leading MLB with a 62-34 record at the All-Star break and sending eight players to the Midsummer Classic. However, they struggled in the second half, finishing 33-33 down the stretch. Despite that, they secured 95 wins—their highest total since 2011—and won the NL East for the first time in 13 years.
Unfortunately, their playoff run was short-lived. They ran into a red-hot New York Mets team and were eliminated in four games, getting outscored 23-12. Their dominant bullpen faltered, and the offense couldn’t generate enough runs to compete.
Now, the Phillies aim to put their disappointing finish behind them and refocus for 2025. They lost key relievers Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez in free agency but made offseason moves to address their weaknesses.
With baseball season on the horizon, Philadelphia fans are looking for another contender. The 76ers have struggled in the NBA, fighting to stay in the playoff race, while the Flyers’ postseason hopes in the NHL are fading. With football season over, the city’s attention now shifts to the Phillies, who enter the year with World Series aspirations. Perhaps the Eagles’ championship will serve as inspiration for a team whose championship window may be closing.
