Breaking: Auburn football lands blockbuster commitment for No. 1 WR and All-American star

The best receiver in the 2024 college football transfer portal is no longer available. Former Georgia Tech star Eric Singleton Jr. has committed to the Auburn football team for 2025, according to On3 Sports.

Singleton will transfer to Auburn with two years of eligibility remaining and a redshirt season still available. He enters the gateway after leading the Yellow Jackets in 2024 with 56 receptions, 754 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. This was his second consecutive season of over 700 yards.

While he improved his numbers as a sophomore, Singleton is a year off from a breakout freshman season that caught the nation by storm.

Despite joining Georgia Tech as a three-star prospect, his 714-yard, six-touchdown performance in 2023 earned him consensus first-team freshman All-American honors.

When Singleton entered his name into the transfer site, he immediately became the top receiver available. His role as the portal’s top pass-catcher elevated him above Kevin Conception, Zachariah Branch, Nic Anderson, Tanner Koziol, and others. On3 Sports selected him as the portal’s second-best player overall, trailing only quarterback John Mateer.

Prior to committing to Georgia Tech in 2023, Singleton earned an offer from Auburn. As a native of Douglasville, Georgia, he chose to remain there.

Singleton became the second ACC receiver to attend Auburn in 2025. On December 19, former Wake Forest wideout Horatio Fields reaffirmed his commitment to the Tigers, adding to their offensive strength.

The 2025 season will mark the third year of Hugh Freeze’s tenure as Auburn’s head football coach. Despite not yet achieving a winning season, Freeze will have his strongest opportunity to turn things around in 2025.

The Tigers will face the departures of Payton Thorne, Jarquez Hunter, and KeAndre Lambert-Smith but will offset those losses with a talented group of incoming transfers. In addition to Singleton and Fields, Freeze has secured commitments from quarterback Jackson Arnold, quarterback Ashton Daniels, offensive tackle Xavier Chaplin, and others.

Arnold, a former five-star recruit, stands out as the group’s centerpiece. While his time at Oklahoma fell short of expectations, he has the potential to be Auburn’s best quarterback since Bo Nix departed in 2021. Arnold passed for just 1,421 yards in 2024 but was the top-rated dual-threat quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class, ranked ahead of Arch Manning, Nico Iamaleava, Avery Johnson, and others.
