Washington’s defensive coordinator, is set to join his father, Bill Belichick, on the coaching staff at North Carolina, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.com. He will serve as the Tar Heels’ defensive coordinator following his father’s recent appointment as head coach earlier this month. However, Steve is expected to remain with the Huskies through their Dec. 31 matchup against Louisville in the Sun Bowl.

He joined Washington’s coaching staff under head coach Jedd Fisch this season after several years with the New England Patriots, where he served as the defensive play-caller for his last four seasons. This year, Washington’s defense ranked ninth in the Big Ten in total yards allowed (324.8) and 10th in points allowed (22.8). The unit excelled in pass defense, ranking second in the conference and fifth nationally, allowing just 166.8 passing yards per game.
