BREAKING: Virginia Tech football legend to become new head coach

Michael Vick is now a coach. Vick is not a college football entry-level analyst, an NFL quarterback coach, or a high school coach. Vick is projected to become the new head football coach.

According to David Teel and The Virginian-Pilot, the Virginia Tech veteran and 13-year NFL quarterback agreed to take over as head coach this week.

It’s been a wild week for Vick coaching speculation. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Sacramento State was interested in Vick for their head coaching opening and was willing to surround him with an experienced staff.

Furthermore, Schefter stated that Sacramento State intends to build a new stadium and has $50 million in NIL to build a competitive roster.

Those NIL statistics appear ludicrous.

Regardless, Vick’s name appeared at Sacramento State, and he reportedly agreed to return home to the 757 and become NSU’s new head coach quickly.

Michael Vick hired as head coach at Norfolk State: Reports

Interestingly, Norfolk State has yet to confirm the news, despite Vick’s statement that it is done. So, until the school issues a statement, Vick’s hire is unofficial.

Vick, along with Bruce Smith, is arguably the greatest and most significant player in Virginia Tech history. He grew up in Newport News and attended Warwick High School before coming to Blacksburg. Vick played three seasons at Virginia Tech and led the Hokies to the national championship game. He was the first overall choice in the 2001 NFL Draft.

Vick has worked in the media for FOX Sports in recent years and has been involved with the Virginia Tech program since Brent Pry became head coach in 2022.

Vick’s hire at NSU comes as Pry is fighting for his job following a poor 6-6 season. Things may get interesting if Vick achieves immediate success while the Hokies struggle in 2025.

We’ll have more on Vick’s new job once it’s official.
