Journalist: PIF eyeing Newcastle move to sign “difference-maker” for Howe in January – report

Newcastle United is reportedly interested in securing the services of an exceptional attacking midfielder during the upcoming January transfer window, as per a recent update on their transfer plans.

Newcastle, in recent times, has built one of their most formidable squads in Premier League history, with a plethora of high-quality options across the field. The club bolstered its squad during the summer by signing players such as Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, and Tino Livramento.

However, Tonali’s 10-month suspension due to betting offenses has shaken the team. Eddie Howe and the owners, PIF, will soon have the opportunity to make further signings in the January transfer window if they deem it necessary. Given Tonali’s absence, the club is likely to target a midfielder with similar qualities, with Kalvin Phillips, Ruben Neves, and N’Golo Kante among the potential transfer targets.

While there’s a need for a disciplined midfielder to compensate for the loss of Tonali, it’s possible that Newcastle is also considering bringing in a more attack-minded player. A recent report suggests that such a move is indeed in the works, as the club is linked with an exciting talent.

Newcastle’s target is Rayan Cherki, an attacking midfielder from Lyon.

Journalist Ignazio Genuardi reported that the Magpies are keen to secure Cherki’s services when the January transfer window opens, considering him a priority signing. Cherki is regarded as an extremely talented player who has already had a significant impact on Lyon’s attacking play, despite his young age.

His statistics, with 14 goals and 16 assists in 111 appearances for Lyon and five goals in 12 appearances for France’s Under-21 team, highlight his potential to become a future star at the senior international level.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has praised Cherki as “incredible” and a “difference-maker” in midfield, making him a potential long-term investment for Newcastle, with the potential to develop into a top-class player over the next few years.

Cherki’s versatility, including the ability to play out wide, adds to his appeal, as it provides valuable squad depth.

Cherki himself might be enticed by the opportunity to join one of the Premier League’s most exciting teams at present, with the chance to play a significant role in what could become a memorable future at St James’ Park.
