Bills’ Josh Allen accomplishes NFL first not even Tom Brady, Steve Young could

The Buffalo Bills defeated the Detroit Lions 48-42 in Week 15’s opening game. Josh Allen opened the game with back-to-back rushing touchdowns, and Buffalo cruised from there. He finished with two passing touchdowns, raising his season total to 35 touchdowns. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, he is the only player who has scored 35 touchdowns in four consecutive seasons.

No one, including Tom Brady, Steve Young, Joe Montana, Drew Brees, or Michael Vick, has scored 35 touchdowns in four consecutive seasons. Josh Allen is in a class of his own, and the Bills are benefiting from it. On a day when their defense faltered, Allen stepped up for his team. It was their biggest win of the season.

Jared Goff threw for 494 yards, of which Amon-Ra St Brown grabbed 193, and scored five touchdowns. However, the Bills shut down the Lions’ most essential component of the game: their running attack. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery combined for 13 carries and 37 yards. Josh Allen himself gained 68 yards on the ground.

The Buffalo Bills face a significant playoff question. With Josh Allen at quarterback, they’ve defeated teams led by Phillip Rivers, Mac Jones, Skylar Thompson, Mason Rudolph, and Lamar Jackson. They’ve lost against Patrick Mahomes three times, Joe Burrow once, and Deshaun Watson.

The Bills polishing off another spectacular regular season

Josh Allen and the Bills’ regular season has never been in doubt. They have made the playoffs in each of the last six seasons, including this one, and Allen has been in the top five in MVP voting three times. The regular season has been much of the same. Allen is one of the favorites to earn MVP, and the Bills are likely to be the second seed.

This was the Bills’ final playoff opponent before the postseason. They finish the season with two games against the Patriots and a home game against the Jets. Josh Allen will compete for MVP on the off possibility that Mahomes and the Chiefs fall from first place.

This Allen performance follows another outstanding one last week. He had six touchdowns, three running and three passing, but the Bills fell against the Rams. The defense did just enough this time to secure the win. While the schedule eases up down the road, the defense must perform better to instill hope in a fanbase that has never witnessed a Super Bowl.
