A former Buffalo Bills wide receiver is accused of purposely infecting a woman and others with an incurable sexually transmitted disease, according to a new lawsuit. In the case, the woman claims Eric Moulds concealed his herpes status during their months-long love relationship in 2023. After exchanging Instagram messages in January 2023, Moulds offered her “an all-expenses paid trip” and flew her to Charlotte, North Carolina, according to a complaint filed Dec. 10 in New York State Superior Court. According to the lawsuit, they started a sexual relationship while on this vacation.
Moulds, who played for the Buffalo Bills from 1996 to 2005, runs a football training facility in Charlotte, according to the Buffalo News, which broke the story on the case. According to the allegation, the woman continued to see Moulds, who paid for her airfare, until November 2023, when they last had intimate and unprotected sex. According to the allegation, Moulds never told her that he had herpes. Instead, his pregnant fiancée did when she called the lady in December 2023 and advised she get tested for STDs “because she, along with other women whom (Moulds) had relationships with, had been transmitted diseases by him,” according to the lawsuit.
According to the lawsuit, the woman, who was unaware that Moulds had been in a relationship with his fiancée for eight years, tested positive for herpes simplex virus type 2 that month. The woman from Erie County, New York, is suing Moulds, who lives in Rock Hill, South Carolina, for negligence and purposely giving her an STD. Moulds had not been officially served with the case as of December 12, but he was aware of it, according to his attorney, Frank LoTempio III. “We are in the process of preparing a response and possibly a motion to dismiss,” LoTempio told McClatchy News in an email on December 12. “We will be fully defending this action against him.”
Tried ‘to buy her silence’
According to the lawsuit, Eric Moulds initially contacted the woman via Instagram in 2018, and they exchanged occasional messages before reconnecting on the platform in January 2023. The complaint alleges that after her herpes diagnosis, the woman discovered Moulds had engaged with multiple women through social media, specifically targeting “single mothers who were Buffalo Bills fans living in Western New York.”
The lawsuit accuses Moulds of leveraging his “celebrity status” as a former NFL star to connect with women online, engage in sexual conversations, and eventually extend “all-expenses-paid invitations” for in-person meetings, which led to intimate relationships.
The woman claims she wasn’t the first to sue Moulds for transmitting herpes. The complaint alleges that Moulds knowingly infected other women, some of whom were reportedly paid to drop their lawsuits and signed non-disclosure agreements. The current plaintiff states that she had no other sexual partners during her relationship with Moulds. She also claims that he offered her money to remain silent, following the pattern described in the complaint.
The woman is seeking unspecified damages, citing the emotional and physical toll of contracting herpes simplex virus 2, which can cause recurring painful blisters and ulcers. While incurable, the disease’s symptoms can be managed.
The complaint describes Moulds’ actions as “outrageous and extreme,” claiming he prioritized his sexual desires over the woman’s long-term health and well-being.
