Breaking: Alabama Football Beat SEC Rival to Land Another Commitment for One of Country’s Best Talent

Alabama football’s 2025 recruiting class received a lift on Wednesday, at the expense of an SEC opponent. The wide receiver who had committed to LSU before the early signing period began on Wednesday, switched to Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide.

Derek Meadows is a four-star prospect, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. He plays high school football at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas.

“Meadows is a jumbo receiver and one of the more intriguing players in the ’25 class,” 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins stated in his scouting report for the receiver. “He has a rare combination of size, athleticism, and body control, and we believe he is merely scratching the surface of his potential.’

4-Star WR Derek Meadows flips commitment to Alabama

Meadows, who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 200 pounds, had been committed to LSU since July. The Tiger class has suffered multiple setbacks recently, beginning with the revelation that five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood has switched to Michigan.

Meadows helps to soften the blow of Alabama’s class flipping on its own. In November, five-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham changed his mind about Alabama and committed to Ole Miss.

He became the second wide receiver in Alabama’s 2025 recruiting class, joining Lotzier Brooks, who has yet to sign but is committed to the Crimson Tide. Meadows is the No. 17 receiver in the 2025 class and the No. 119 player overall, according to the 247Sports composite.

The early signing period for the 2025 class started on Wednesday. It lasts for three days, through Friday.
