The 2024 college football regular season has concluded, and the conference championship games will take place this weekend. The ACC championship game will be played on Saturday night at Bank of America Stadium between SMU and Clemson. The ACC revealed its all-conference teams ahead of the championship game, and six Virginia Tech players were named to one of them.
Antwaun Powell-Ryland and Aeneas Peebles, both defensive linemen for Virginia Tech, were named First Team All-ACC. Powell-Ryland concluded the season with 16 sacks and was a force for the Hokies throughout, including two four-sack games against Old Dominion and Boston College.
Peebles, who spent only one season in Blacksburg after transferring from Duke, finished with 30 tackles, 10 solo, and three sacks. Donovan Ezeiruaku of Boston College joined Powell-Ryland as the other defensive end, while Simon Barrow, Jr. of Miami and Jared Harrison-Hunte of SMU joined Peebles at defensive tackle.
Virginia Tech running back Bhayshul Tuten was the only Hokie to make the Second-Team All-ACC. This season, he carried for 1,159 yards on 183 attempts, averaging 6.3 yards per carry. He scored 15 touchdowns, including two against Virginia on Saturday night in a 37-17 victory to become bowl eligible.
Three Hokies were named to the Third-Team All-ACC, including cornerback Mansoor Delane, punter Peter Moore, and punt returner Jaylin Lane, who filled in admirably for Tucker Holloway this season.
Several Virginia Tech players were named honorable mention All-ACC, including offensive tackle Xavier Chaplin, guard Kaden Moore, cornerback Dorian Strong, and kicker John Love. It’s difficult to imagine that Love didn’t make one of the three other All-ACC teams after such an impressive season.
Individual awards will be presented this week, with offensive and defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Defensive Rookies being revealed on Wednesday and Coach of the Year on Thursday.
