The New York Yankees enjoyed their most successful season in over a decade, but even that wasn’t enough to overcome the powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers. As the offseason begins, the Yankees face the challenge of bolstering their roster to contend with the Dodgers and other top teams. Their primary goal is to re-sign Juan Soto and keep him in Aaron Boone’s lineup.
Beyond that, the free agent market offers several intriguing options. If beating the Dodgers proves difficult, why not poach some of their talent? According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, there’s “mutual interest” between the Yankees and Dodgers free agent pitcher Walker Buehler regarding a potential contract.
Signing Walker Buehler could be a smart move for both the Yankees and the pitcher. Spotrac estimates Buehler’s market value at a one-year, $3.9 million deal, though he might command slightly more. At this affordable price, the Yankees could potentially sign him and then trade a pitcher like Nestor Cortes or Marcus Stroman, upgrading their rotation while also gaining prospects.
Additionally, bringing Buehler to New York would slightly weaken the Dodgers, which could be beneficial. Even minor hits to a competitor’s strength are worth pursuing. Given the fit, financial feasibility, and strategic value, this is an option the Yankees should seriously consider.
