JUST IN: Maxx Crosby makes comment fueling speculation about his future with Raiders

Following the Davante Adams trade, the Raiders must decide whether to rebuild.

Defensive end Maxx Crosby, who has stated that he does not want to be traded and will not be traded (according to owner Mark Davis), addressed the “rebuild” issue with reporters on Wednesday from the locker room.

“I’m not here to rebuild, I’m here to win,” Crosby stated. “So, I’m not sure. Whatever that means, I am here to win today. And wherever I go, I plan to win. So that is all that counts to me.

Two items. First, watch the quotes in the linked video. At one point, he gives a sardonic, almost knowing smile. It disappears nearly as swiftly as it appears, but it is unmistakable. He was contemplating something that he did not express.

Second, he stated something fascinating. “Wherever I’m gonna be, I’m gonna be here to win.”

Raiders' Maxx Crosby Still Cherishes 'Legendary' Fans in Oakland

What does this mean?

Giving the team’s best offensive player a one-way ticket out of town has the unintended consequence that the team’s top defensive player may begin to consider acquiring his own. How could he not? How could anyone ignore the striking contrast between life with a losing team and a prospective move to a contender?

That does not imply he wants to be traded. It absolutely does not imply that he will be traded.

However, in those easy, careless moments in a player’s locker, something that appears and feels like the truth can slip out. Between the brief smile and the “wherever I’m gonna be, I’m gonna be here to win” comment, it’s reasonable to ask what Crosby really wants.
