College football official Early Signing Day for the Class of 2025 is just a few weeks away, and the flip action is heating up. Several prospects are flipping their commitments coming up to signing day, as they are pledged to one school but are still making official visits to others.
When Clemson visited Blacksburg on November 9 for a 24-14 loss, Virginia Tech entertained some recruits who had committed to other schools. The Hokies have already lost one commitment in the Class of 2025, when Matthew Outten switched his promise to Penn State and James Franklin, who happens to be Brent Pry’s previous boss, where he was the defensive coordinator before coming to Blacksburg.
The Hokies have two quarterbacks committed to the Class of 2025: Kelden Ryan from DeSoto, Texas, and AJ Brand from Columbia, South Carolina. Brand committed to Virginia Tech in June, choosing them over his native South Carolina Gamecocks, and with signing day just weeks away, he remains committed to Pry and offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen.
According to Anna Adams of 247Sports, Brand, a three-star recruit, paid an official visit to South Carolina this past weekend to see the Gamecocks rally to defeat Missouri in the waning seconds of the game. Adams spoke with Brand, who confirmed that he remains committed to the Hokies.
“Lock in with VT,” Brand instructed Adams.
That is wonderful news for Pry, Bowen, and the Hokies, but in today’s recruiting climate, never say never. He is a gifted signal caller who had a terrific senior season at Irmo High School, and his future prospects in Blacksburg look promising.
Things will move quickly in recruiting over the next several weeks, and Brand is someone to watch. He’ll return to Lane Stadium on November 30 for the Commonwealth’s game against Virginia.
