Breaking: Yankees-cardinals Agree to Blockbuster Trade for $260 million Star

The New York Yankees now have an issue in the infield. Gleyber Torres, the Yankees’ second baseman, is a free agent, and the team has no internal answer for him. However, the Yankees can bring in a third baseman and shift Jazz Chisholm Jr. to second base. There has been rumors that New York may sign Houston Astros free agent Alex Bregman, but I believe a trade candidate is a better fit.

The St. Louis Cardinals may attempt to trade third baseman Nolan Arenado. The Yankees would be an ideal fit, and Arenado would most certainly waive his no-trade clause for this team. Here’s the trade that would get Arenado to the Bronx:

New York Yankees receive: 3B Nolan Arenado

St. Louis Cardinals receive: SS/2B Roderick Arias (No. 4 prospect), LHP Brock Selvidge (No. 7 prospect), RHP Trystan Vrieling (No. 28 prospect)

Last season, Aaron Boone’s club struggled to defend the infield. Adding Arenado, a multi-time Gold Glove winner, would significantly improve defense. It would also shift Chisholm to his natural position at second base. Arias, Selvidge, and Vrieling would provide the Cardinals with a strong foundation for their rebuild.

Arias, 20, batted.233/.335/.393 last season. It was the young infielder’s first full season of pro ball, following 31 and 27 games in his first two rookie seasons, respectively. Selvidge, 22, made 16 starts in Double-A last season. He had a 4.25 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP over 84.2 innings. Walks were more of an issue as usual, but his pitching repertoire remains extremely good.

Vrierling, 24, was consistent in 25 starts last season. He finished 13-7 with a 4.58 ERA and 132 strikeouts in 147.1 innings. He is expected to become a middle-inning relief pitcher in the future. Due to Arenado’s no-trade clause, the Cardinals will have a difficult time finding a better package of prospects. As they try to rebuild, dealing the experienced third baseman is an important component of the equation.
