Injury Update: Unforeseen Setbacks As Dolphins Places More Stars On IR

To kick off the week, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel addressed the media, providing some updates on the team’s injured players. While there’s still uncertainty around Tua Tagovailoa’s return, the outlook isn’t much brighter for a couple of others.

Tua’s return timeline remains unclear, and now Bradley Chubb and Isaiah Wynn are also added to the list of sidelined players. Chubb has been on Injured Reserve since last season, and Wynn was, too. So, when can we expect them back on the field?

McDaniel mentioned Chubb’s status, noting that while he’s technically eligible to return now, he likely won’t be ready until at least next month. When asked about Chubb, McDaniel confirmed he won’t be playing this week but added he’s “optimistic” Chubb will return at some point this season. McDaniel’s responses continue to remain somewhat cryptic.

There wasn’t much the Dolphins could do regarding Chubb, apart from not having him on the field late in a blowout loss. However, Wynn’s situation is different.

When Wynn played last year, he performed well at left guard, and the Dolphins’ running game improved noticeably. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury early in 2023, causing him to miss the remainder of the season. Chris Grier saw an opportunity to add him at a low cost and signed Wynn to a one-year deal.

The Dolphins need to get River Cracraft back into the fold as well

Wynn hasn’t practiced or played this season. Essentially, Grier is paying him to sit out, just as he did for much of last year. Instead of drafting a guard or signing a free agent, Grier chose his usual, budget-friendly approach.

There’s also no update on River Cracraft, who was injured in the Dolphins’ second preseason game and placed on IR. He’s due to return, but Miami urgently needs these players back. However, McDaniel hasn’t given much reason for optimism regarding the injured players recently.
