Breaking News: Panthers To Get Huge Boost With Return of Another Top Star

Panthers rookie running back is nearing his NFL debut as the team prepares to open his 21-day practice window, signaling his potential activation from the non-football injury list, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Although Carolina hasn’t officially made the move, head coach Dave Canales indicated that Brooks’ return to practice is imminent—a positive sign for the rebuilding team, where Brooks is expected to play a significant role.

Selected 46th overall in April, Brooks suffered an ACL tear late in 2023, which impacted but didn’t sink his draft stock. The Panthers took a gamble on him in the second round, banking on his future potential despite criticism related to the team’s other pressing needs and limited draft picks following the Bryce Young trade. Notably, Brooks was the only running back taken in the first two rounds this year, underscoring Carolina’s confidence in his abilities.

Brooks started the season on the NFI list as the team focused on his long-term recovery rather than rushing him back. In his absence, Chuba Hubbard has thrived as the Panthers’ top rusher, currently ranking third in the league in rushing yards (485), second in success rate (64.0%), and fifth in yards per carry (5.6). Hubbard’s strong performance will allow Brooks to gradually ease into the rotation as he adjusts to the NFL and gets familiar with Canales’ offensive scheme.

At 1-5, the Panthers are in dire need of reinforcements, though Brooks’ return may not drastically change an offense that has struggled due to inconsistent quarterback play and injuries along the offensive line. The Texas alum could provide a spark in the passing game, as neither Hubbard nor Miles Sanders has surpassed 100 receiving yards this season.

Once designated for return, Brooks will have a 21-day window to be activated to the 53-man roster. If he isn’t added within that time, he would revert to season-ending injured reserve, barring any setbacks in his recovery.
