Breaking News: Pittsburgh Steelers cut ties with former Falcons pass rusher

The Pittsburgh Steelers waived former Atlanta Falcons pass rusher, during Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. That frees up one roster space for someone to return this week, which could be a signing or one of the several players eligible to come off injured reserve.

Ogundeji made his Steelers debut on Sunday after being added to the active roster for the game. This allowed them to promote Eku Leota as well, giving Pittsburgh four edge rushers to work with while Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, and DeMarvin Leal were out injured.

Highsmith is anticipated to return this week, giving the Steelers time to locate another roster place. Wide receiver Ben Skowronek and linebacker Tyler Matakevich are eligible to return from injured reserve this week if the Steelers decide they are ready.

Ogundeji recorded two tackles in his attempt against the Raiders. The Steelers would most likely reinstate Ogundeji on the practice squad, but another move will be required for him to rejoin the team’s practice squad, which currently has all 17 seats filled.

The Steelers’ active roster includes four outside linebackers: T.J. Watt, Jeremiah Moon, Highsmith, and Herbig.
